Freight Forwarding FAQ

Quick answers to common shipping questions.

Freight forwarding is the coordination of international shipping by sea, air, or land. A freight forwarder books cargo space, prepares documents, manages customs clearance, and oversees delivery on behalf of the shipper.

FCL (Full Container Load) uses a dedicated container for one shipper. LCL (Less than Container Load) shares container space with other shippers. FCL is faster and more secure, while LCL is cost-effective for smaller volumes.

International shipping costs depend on cargo volume, weight, route, container type, fuel surcharges, and local charges. Rates change frequently, so accurate pricing requires your shipment details and current carrier rates.

Sea freight transit time depends on the port pair and whether the route is direct or transshipment. Typical ranges are 5–14 days within Asia and 25–40 days for Asia–Europe, excluding customs clearance and local handling.

Common shipping documents include a Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and customs permits. Some cargo requires HS codes, certificates of origin, or import/export licenses depending on destination.

A Bill of Lading is a legal shipping document issued by the carrier or NVOCC. It acts as a receipt of goods, a contract of carriage, and a document of title (e.g., Original BL, Sea Waybill, Telex Release).

Incoterms define buyer and seller responsibilities for cost, risk, and delivery points (e.g., EXW, FOB, CIF, DDP). The right Incoterm prevents disputes and unexpected charges.
